New Publication: “Summer of Reproducibility: Building Global Capacity for Practical Reproducibility through Hands-On Mentorship”

We are delighted to announce the publication of “Summer of Reproducibility: Building Global Capacity for Practical Reproducibility through Hands-On Mentorship” by Stephanie Lieggi, Fraida Fund, Kate Keahey, and Marc Richardson, presented at the 2025 ACM Conference on Reproducibility and Replicability (ACM REP’25).

This publication highlights the growing success of the Summer of Reproducibility (SoR) program, developed collaboratively by the REPETO project and OSRE at UC Santa Cruz. Since its inception in 2023, SoR has empowered over 55 students and connected them with more than 60 mentors across disciplines such as machine learning, genomics, and networking. Through hands-on mentorship and open-source project contributions, SoR Fellows acquire valuable research experience and directly advance the cause of reproducible science.

The paper documents how the program builds global capacity for practical reproducibility, provides a scalable model for mentorship, and supports the creation and use of reproducibility artifacts that both validate research results and serve as teaching tools. The authors also share best practices to streamline artifact creation and integrate reproducible experiments into education and research labs.

Congratulations to the authors and the whole team for their commitment to fostering a culture of reproducibility! We encourage anyone interested in mentoring or participating in future SoR cohorts to explore the SoR page and see how to get involved.
